About Us

A Message to Friends and Supporters of the Museum

From its roughneck days to being the City of Planned Progress, Pleasanton’s Museum on Main tells it all. In a most unique way: with ever changing exhibits spanning the Civil War to today’s modes of transportation. Yes, one recent exhibit even featured a motorcycle with wings!

In another area, a permanent exhibit covers the times of cowboys and ladies with hooped-dresses as well as items from the museum’s years as a police station and city hall.

Lectures, tours for all ages and interests, even a not-too-scary haunted house each October provide another glimpse into Pleasanton’s appealing heritage. And don’t miss shopping at the gift store that provides wonderful new treasures continuously.

The museum is part of the Amador-Livermore Valley Historical Society (ALVHS), a non-profit organization dedicated to linking the past to the future by preserving, clarifying and disseminating information about history specific to this region. Since its founding in 1963, ALVHS continues its mission through this website, newsletters, pamphlets, special events, oral history projects, educational programming for volunteers, acquisition and preservation of artifacts, documents and photographs.

Museum and ALVHS goals include increased cooperation with other educational and historical organizations, continued development of educational programs and outreach to community groups.

Welcome to the Amador Livermore Valley Historical Society and Pleasanton’s Museum on Main website.

 Our Mission

photoThe Museum on Main tells the fascinating stories of those who came before — illustrating characters, places and events that have shaped our community. These tales capture the hearts of people in our community today, enabling them to connect with our rich heritage.

The Museum on Main is the steward of our community's historical treasures. Through our children's education center, museum library and archive, and dynamic exhibits it speaks to the character of Pleasanton.

The Amador-Livermore Valley Historical Society (ALVHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to linking the past to the future by preserving, clarifying and disseminating information about history specific to this region.
