what we believe
What we teach and believe can be generally described as orthodox, evangelical and Pentecostal.
By orthodox, we mean that we follow the fundamental creeds of classical Christianity, including the inspiration of scripture, the tri-unity of God, the role of Jesus Christ as humankind's Redeemer and Lord, JesusĀ“ virgin birth, His physical resurrection from the dead, the role of the worldwide church as the conservator of faith, the holy life of the believer, and the assurance that Christ will return to judge humankind and to establish His eternal kingdom.
As evangelicals, we affirm the role of believers to participate in their world as the salt of the earth, bringing the Good News of eternal life in Jesus Christ to the lost and afflicted. (See "The Gospel of Jesus Christ: An Evangelical Celebration," published June, 1999 and endorsed by over 100 church leaders, including Thomas Trask, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God.)
We value our Pentecostal heritage as a contemporary outpouring of the Holy Spirit not unlike the dramatic episodes found in the book of Acts. Christ sent the Holy Spirit so that His followers could continue in His ministry with no lapse in power or effectiveness. The truth of the Gospel message was to be verified by "signs and wonders," Holy Spirit-given gifts such as healing, prophecy, and speaking in unknown tongues.
