This product was invented in Dayton, Ohio by a gentelman named Charles Davis, who is, and has been for decades, one of the nations leading and most innovative retail florists. Mr. Davis spent almost 20 years developing and refining his formulas and testing them within his own business. The result was a product he called Kleenshine which he marketed locally to a number of retail florists in the Ohio area. In 1994, Mr. Davis sold all of the formulas and marketing rights to Horticultural Research Inc. (HRI). 

HRI spent another 18 months working with research scientists and independent Labs to both further improve the Kleenshine formula and obtain unbiased, third party test results. The first product to be marketed by HRI is called Hydroseal, which was officially introduced to the market in March, 1996. 

This product is specifically formulated for the cut greens industry and is being packaged and sold to cut greens producers and distributors around the world. Growers are currently dipping substantial quantities of their greens products in large tanks of Hydroseal. Hydroseal works as an antitranspirant by coating the leaves. This coating allows the leaves to hold most of their water content and lose very little through the leaves natural process of transpiration. The result is the ability to ship to customers, greens that do not arrive curled and/or dried out. In addition, Hydroseal significantly increases the greens shelf-life (a minimum of 30% or more) and gives the product a clean, slightly shiny appearance. Hydroseal-treated products also allow florists to "pre-green" arrangement foam much earlier as well as greatly enhance products destined for long distance shipping, exporting, and storage.
