Like most credit unions, Patelco was originally started to serve the financial interests of the employees of a specific organization, in our case the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company. The year was 1936, and Patelco’s initial assets totaled a mere $500.

Today, we are among the largest credit unions in the country, with over $3.7 billion in assets and over 290,000 members. We have expanded our field of membership to serve the employees of over 1,000 large and small businesses and communities throughout California and the United States.
