Jeff Reed began playing guitar at age 8 and formed his first performing band at age 12.  He received guitar lessons through high school (Burlingame, CA) eventually attending the college of San Mateo (70-72) majoring in music.  He studied with guitarists Jerry Hahn and S.F. guitarist Dave Smith.  Jeff enrolled at the Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA in 1972 and graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Music degree with specialized studied in arranging and composition and instrumental performance.  While at Berklee Jeff studied improvisation techniques with world vibraphonist Gary Burton and popular jazz guitarist Pat Metheny.

After graduating Jeff traveled throughout the U.S. and Western Canada with a show band “Ups & Down” for 3 years.  He returned to California and played local engagements from S.F. to San Jose while continuing his studies with local professional guitarist Warren Nunes.

Jeff has been a professional performer and instructor for most of his adult life and continues his pursuit of musical knowledge and performance techniques with the same learning passion that fueled his initial desire to play as a child.

Jeff plays a variety of guitar styles including Folk, Rock, Country, Jazz, Celtic, Classic, Blues, and Ragtime.  His approach to playing includes the use of a pick (plectrum) as well as finger style and Travis picking techniques.

Whether your interests are singing and playing songs or learning solo guitar pieces, Jeff is uniquely qualified to help you achieved your musical goals.

A note from Jeff…

“It is a great privilege to be able to share my life’s passion with others.  I receive the greatest joy from passing on much of what I have learned to my students.  It is my hope that they receive the same joy whenever they pick up this wonderful instrument.”
