Soroptimist Pledge

I pledge allegiance to Soroptimist, and to the ideals for which it stands.

The Sincerity of Friendship, the Joy of Achievement,

the Dignity of Service, the Integrity of Profession, the Love of Country.

I will put forth my greatest effort to promote, uphold and defend these ideals

for a larger fellowship, in home, in society, in business for country and for God.

 Quick Facts

  • Soroptimists was founded in 1921 in Oakland, CA by 80 women. The organization has grown to almost 100,000 members in 122 countries. Soroptimist clubs are organized into districts, regions, and federations.
  • The name Soroptimists is coined from two Latin words - "Soror" (sister) and "Optomus" (the best), translated to mean "The Best for Women."
  • Soroptimist International is a worldwide service organization of business and professional members dedicated to providing service to others in six programs of service areas:
    • Economic & Social Development
    • Education
    • Environment
    • Health
    • Human Rights/Status of Women
    • Goodwill & Understanding
    • Membership Brings Special Benefits

Satisfaction: Your efforts in your club to perform community service, bestow grants and award scholarships will bring you the satisfaction of knowing that on a local, regional and international level you have helped others.

Knowledge & Personal Growth: You will learn more about your community and how to lead and follow.

Networking: Share your business and professional expertise with others and learn about theirs in return.

Friendship: In the course of participating in your Soroptimist club activities, you will forge new friendships, many that will last a lifetime.

Being a Soroptimist means many things:

      • It means you care about making a difference in the lives of women & children -- in your community, your country, and throughout the world.
      • It means you’re willing to give of your time & talent to raise funds & provide service to others in your community.
      • It means you are a person of action -- not someone who waits for others to improve the lives of those less fortunate.
